Every seller has heard "aim for a 4x ROAS" as a rule of thumb, but the right number depends entirely on your margin. A product with fat margins can profitably run ads at a 2x ROAS. A thin-margin product might need 6x just to break even. There's no universal target — there's only your break-even ROAS.
An 8% return rate doesn't mean 8% of your profit disappears — it means every single sale carries a small, averaged-out cost, because you don't know in advance which ones will come back. Building that into your per-sale math, instead of being surprised by it monthly, is the difference between pricing confidently and guessing.
Marketplace fee presets (Amazon, eBay, Etsy) are typical published rates for most categories — your actual fee can vary by category, account type and fulfillment method, so always sanity-check against your own seller dashboard. Return-cost math assumes you don't recover the product cost or the marketplace fee on a returned order, which is the conservative (safe) assumption for most categories.
