Toolbench

A network of 49 tool suites

Working numbers,
worked properly.

388 calculators and utilities across 6 disciplines — trade take-offs, landed cost, solar sizing, clinical formulas, file conversion, developer utilities. Each one runs entirely in your browser, shows the arithmetic it used, and asks nothing of you.

The bench

Every suite in the network

Grouped by the kind of work they serve. Each suite is a complete site of its own — open one and it behaves like a dedicated tool, not a page in a directory.

Money & Business

Pricing, profit, property and trade — the arithmetic behind getting paid.

11 suites / 90 tools

Building & Trades

Quantities, take-offs and materials, worked to the unit you actually buy.

8 suites / 63 tools

Vehicles & Energy

What a car really costs, and how much solar the roof genuinely needs.

4 suites / 34 tools

Files, Photo & Code

Convert, edit and inspect — in the tab, never on someone else's server.

7 suites / 52 tools

Life & Everyday

Health literacy, time, planning, maths and music theory, done properly.

10 suites / 80 tools

Travel & Lifestyle

Trip budgets, currency, connections and jet lag — the numbers behind actual travel.

What the network is, and how it was built

Most online calculators are a thin form wrapped in advertising, computing one number and stopping exactly where the real question begins. A tip calculator that cannot split a bill unevenly. A mortgage page that quotes a monthly payment and ignores every closing cost. A solar estimator that sizes an array and says nothing about the battery bank, the wire gauge or the charge controller.

Toolbench is built on the opposite premise: finish the calculation. Each suite takes one domain and works it through to the number a person actually needs to act on.

If a figure could not be verified against a real standard, it was left out — not estimated and presented as fact.

Money, business and property

MoneyBench covers personal finance — compound growth, loan payoff, savings targets. CostKit handles everyday money questions: tips, uneven bill splits, discounts, unit-price comparison and the true lifetime cost of a loan. BizBench is the widest suite at 14 tools, covering the pricing, margin, payroll and invoicing arithmetic a small business runs on. SellerKit answers what a marketplace sale actually puts in your pocket after fees, shipping and returns. PropBench works real estate numbers fully: amortisation, rental yield, closing costs, affordability. ShipBench covers import and export — landed cost, duties, Incoterms responsibilities and container loading. calcfin will add income tax, worked line by line.

Building and the trades

BuildPlan tells you how much to buy before you leave for the merchant. BuildCalc turns a described job into a metric materials list — concrete, blocks, screed, paint. SiteBench is take-off and pricing for contractors, carrying quantities through waste, labour and margin into a quote that adds up. TradeKit spans five trades in twelve tools: electrician wire sizing and voltage drop against NEC ampacity tables, plumbing pipe sizing and flow, painter and tiler quantities with realistic pattern waste factors, and carpenter board feet.

Vehicles and energy

CarCost answers what a car really costs once depreciation, fuel, insurance, servicing and finance are counted — usually a very different figure from the sticker. SunWatt and WattBench both handle solar from opposite ends: SunWatt sizes a system from household consumption, WattBench runs the full off-grid check through array, battery bank, wire and controller. Cars is planned for the everyday decisions either side of ownership.

Files, photos and code

ConvertKit converts between images, PDF, CSV, Excel, JSON and SVG using libraries running in the page itself — which is why it can promise no uploads and no account. PixKit is six genuine photo tools built on canvas: upscaling, passport crops to real per-country specifications, restoration and product shots. DevKit is twelve developer utilities — JSON, Base64, MD5 and SHA hashing, regex, UUIDs, cron, diff, Markdown, colour, JWT decoding, timestamps, and a token estimator for AI prompts. QuickConvert and WebQuick are queued to cover unit conversion and everyday web utilities.

Health, time and everyday life

MedKit implements twelve published clinical formulas for learning, with a clear line drawn at diagnosis. TimeKit handles time zones, world clocks, business days, countdowns and Unix timestamps. PathKit is the most ambitious: pick a goal — start a channel, renovate a bathroom, plan a wedding — and get a staged, checkable plan with researched cost ranges. ChordBench does music theory with correct enharmonic spelling, which most free tools quietly get wrong. MathQuick and VitalCalc are next on the bench.

The rules every suite follows

No backend, so nothing to upload and nothing to bill you for. Every formula traceable to a published standard, table or citable source. Ranges where reality has ranges, and exact figures only where the arithmetic is genuinely exact. Honest limits stated on the page — where a tool cannot do something, it says so rather than approximating and hoping.

Questions

Before you start using them

Do any of these tools upload my data?

No. Every suite is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript that runs inside your browser tab. There is no account, no server doing the arithmetic, and nothing leaves the device — which is why the whole network is free and why the file and photo tools can promise zero uploads.

Are the numbers accurate, or estimates?

It depends on the tool, and each one says which it is. Arithmetic like loan amortisation, unit conversion, hashes or timezone maths is exact. Anything resting on real-world pricing, wire ampacity, material coverage or tax rules is built from published tables and standards, and shows a range rather than a single false-precise figure.

Where a calculation could not be verified it was left out rather than approximated — MedKit ships a cardiovascular risk-factor counter instead of a fabricated percentage, for exactly that reason.

Why isn't there one search box I can type into?

Understanding a free-text request needs a language model, and a language model needs a server and a cost per query. The network is built the other way round: pick the suite, then the tool, and everything after that runs locally and instantly for nothing.

Can I use these commercially, on a real job or quote?

They are built to be useful on real work — take-offs, quotes, landed cost, payroll. Treat every output as a well-documented first pass rather than a signed-off figure: confirm current prices, local code and tax rules before money changes hands.

Is MedKit medical advice?

No, and it is explicit about that throughout. It implements published, citable clinical formulas — CKD-EPI 2021, Wells, SIRS, Mifflin-St Jeor — for learning and awareness, not diagnosis or treatment.

Do they work on a phone, or offline?

Every suite is responsive and built for touch. Once a page has loaded it needs no further network access, so it keeps working on a flaky signal — useful on a site visit or in a warehouse.

What are the suites marked “coming soon”?

0 more suites are on the bench and not built yet. They are listed so you can see where the network is going; their pages explain what is planned and point you at the live suites that overlap in the meantime.
