Color Palette Extractor

Pull a color palette straight out of any photo.

Sampling real pixels, not a preset library

The image is drawn onto a small offscreen canvas, and its raw pixel data is read directly with the Canvas API's getImageData(). Similar colors are grouped into buckets, and the buckets with the most pixels become your extracted palette — built from the actual photo, every time.

HEX, RGB and instant copy

Every swatch shows its HEX code, RGB values and share of the image, with a one-click copy button so you can paste the color straight into a design tool, CSS, or a brand style guide.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool decide which colors are “dominant”?

It downsamples the image, reads every sampled pixel's color, and groups similar colors into buckets (a simple color-quantization technique). Each bucket's average color and its share of total sampled pixels become one swatch — the buckets with the most pixels are the most dominant colors.

Why does the palette change slightly if I pick a different photo?

Because the buckets are built fresh from that image's actual pixel data — the palette reflects colors genuinely present in your photo, not a generic preset, so different photos naturally produce different results.

Can I choose how many colors to extract?

Yes — pick 5, 8 or 12 swatches. More swatches capture finer color variation; fewer swatches give you a cleaner, more usable core palette for design work.

What can I use the extracted palette for?

Common uses include picking a matching color scheme for a design or website, building a mood board, or making sure text and UI elements you place over the photo will have enough contrast against its dominant colors.
