Carry-On Size Checker

Check your bag's length, width and height against common carry-on size limits before you get to the gate.

Three common presets, plus your own

Carry-on limits vary more than checked-bag limits, and budget carriers in particular often enforce noticeably smaller free cabin bags than mainline international carriers. The three presets here cover the most common bands; switch to "Custom" whenever you know your specific airline's exact numbers.

Measure the bag, not the box it came in

Retail listings sometimes quote a bag's dimensions without its wheels, handles or external pockets. Measure the bag itself at its largest points in each direction and enter those figures for the most accurate pass/fail result.

Frequently asked questions

Which preset should I use?

Use "Standard international" (about 55×40×20cm) for most full-service international carriers, "Budget / low-cost carrier" (about 40×30×20cm) for many European and Asian budget airlines that enforce a smaller free cabin bag, and "US domestic" (about 56×36×23cm) for typical US mainline carriers. When in doubt, check your specific airline and pick "Custom."

Does the checker include wheels and handles?

You should measure your bag at its largest points, including wheels, handles and any external pockets, since that's what gate staff and sizers measure. Enter those outer dimensions here rather than the manufacturer's quoted interior size.

What happens if my bag fails on one dimension only?

The result shows exactly which dimension (or dimensions) are over and by how many centimeters, so you know whether a slightly different packing approach or a soft-sided bag that compresses could bring it back under the limit.

Do carry-on size limits ever change?

Yes, airlines revise cabin bag limits from time to time and some regional partners use tighter limits than their parent airline. Always double check the current limit on your airline's website close to your travel date, especially for budget carriers.
